The red rocks of the Saguaro Lake mountains glowed like embers in the January sun. We watched mountain goats effortlessly leap from cliff to cliff as we made our way up into the mountains overlooking the calm waters. Sergio and Mariah balanced each other perfectly, him being her steady rock for her carefree spirit. He helped her step carefully over the rocks and carried her when her dress was close to getting caught on cacti, with the sweetest smile on his face. We chased the last of the sun as it crept up the side of the mountains, the two of them hand in hand the whole way.
When you think of Arizona, most people tend to imagine red rocks and tumbleweeds drifting through the dry desert. But Arizona held so many unexpected gems we were thrilled to experience. Myself and a few of my photographer friends drove a couple hours into the mountains, sharing stories and laughter. Saguaro Lake was a shimmering diamond, with steep and majestic ridges and canyon walls towering over, making for a beautiful scene for an intimate and laid back elopement. Mariah and Sergio made all bohemian elopement dreams come true from her gorgeous florals and unique dress, to his amazing taste in color for a suit.
As the moon crept up over the horizon and the lights of distant boats and homes reflected off the water, we made our way back down the mountain and to our cars. We got the spontaneous idea to take a few intimate portraits in front of the car headlights before ending the most perfect evening together. We headed back to our airbnb with tired feet and warm hearts, and a hankering for some In n’ Out on the way back too.
Hopefully these images give you a taste of this special evening and the warmth and welcome of Arizona and her beautiful landscape. This was such a special trip, my first time visiting out west and with such amazing talented friends as well!
